How your pay after tax is worked out

  1. Income tax. The ATO resident rates for 2026-27 apply to your taxable income (table below). The rate on income between $18,201 and $45,000 fell from 16% to 15% on 1 July 2026.
  2. Low income tax offset. Up to $700 off your tax if you earn $37,500 or less, phasing out by $66,667.
  3. Medicare levy. 2% of taxable income, reduced for low incomes (no levy at $28,011 or less, phased in up to $35,013, the 2025-26 single thresholds; the ATO updates them each year).
  4. Super. Your employer pays 12% super on top of your salary into your super fund. It is not part of your take home pay.
Take home pay = taxable income − (income tax − offsets) − Medicare levy
